I’m positive my Dispatch is a bit of an echo chamber. If you’re subscribed and reading this I’m not telling you anything new when I say GOP Presidential Nominee Donald Trump doesn’t give a flying fuck about veterans or even active duty service members. You know that. What I’m hoping to do instead is give you, dear piggie, information to pass on to the veterans and service members in your life that are potentially still thinking of throwing a vote towards Trump under the auspice that he will do anything to improve their lives. So let’s start with the most recent anti-veteran action Trump has committed: During a donor event this past week, while standing in front of a bunch of Israeli flags, Trump said aloud (and I’m paraphrasing) “The Presidential Medal of Freedom is worth more, because Medal of Honor winners are dead or all shot up, lives ruined” etc etc. These comments were in regards to his presentation of the PMF to a Republican mega donor and billionaire during his administration. It goes without saying that the Congressional Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military honor for extreme valor, is far superior. People have literally died, often selflessly in the defense of their brothers and sisters in arms, to be awarded it. This is something that Trump has zero concept of, since he has never once in his entire 80 year life, ever done something to the benefit of another human being. And we know this isn’t the first or only time Trump has opened his big dumb orange asshole of a mouth in direct opposition of our nation’s service members. You’ll recall he called for the public execution of PVT Beau Bergdahl after he was returned by the Taliban. He openly mocked Vietnam POW the late Senator John McCain (who refused to be sent home from the infamous “Hanoi Hilton” until lesser ranking men were sent home first). Senator John McCain would spend the rest of his life living with the severe injuries from repeated torture at the hands of the Viet Cong and NVA. It was alleged, and all-but-directly-proven, that Trump stood over the graves of dead WWI Americans and asked aloud why anyone would go to war. To die for your country is for “suckers and loser.” He said this in the presence of his Chief of Staff, former US Marine Corps General John Kelly, himself a Gold Star parent. And believe me, after 17 years of military service across two branches, I am the last person to tell anyone to go sign up to go to war. It really sucks and I think I’m clearly on the record with those sentiments. But to stand over the remains of those who sacrificed their lives, cut down way too young, who left behind families to die on a foreign land… and call them “suckers” and “losers” can’t be waved away. Trump might as well pulled down his diaper and took a very difficult bowel movement directly on to the headstone. When a Special Forces OD-A was ambushed in Niger in 2018, resulting in the deaths of two US service members (SOF enablers), Trump called the widow of one of the service members and, after losing his patience with the conversation, blurted out: Well he knew what he signed up for. He said that. There’s a whole-ass recording of it. Look it up. Imagine your husband’s corpse hasn’t even cooled off yet and the POTUS is shouting into your ear “he knew what he signed up for.” Trump has repeatedly demonstrated callousness towards gold star families; in another phone call with the parents of a killed Sikh service member, he badgered them about their son’s true allegiances. Wow, insensitive AND racist in one go! Trump had an opportunity to pay respect at the 70th anniversary of the Normandy Invasion with other European leaders and deferred, allegedly due to the weather. Trump didn’t want to risk getting his hair wet, it was reported on background. Oh and lets not forget that Trump, a sniveling rich kid, received no less than six deferments from the Vietnam War draft for “bone spurs” in his feet. He then told Howard Stern years later that the 1990s New York club scene was his “personal Vietnam” since he was “dodging AIDS.” And lastly, a personal anecdote: When I was at 10th Special Forces Group, working in the operations center, an older NCO was doing his retirement stuff. He complained loudly that the option to receive a congratulatory letter from a former/current POTUS did not include Trump. Each former living and sitting POTUS typically writes a short letter to service members retiring after 20 years of service. Trump, apparently, was not an option. “He’s being silenced!” Complained the NCO, through his dip juice-strewn beard. “Have you considered that maybe he just hasn’t written one and doesn’t care to?” I offered. This resulted in a lot of excited sounds and hand gesturing that I won’t repeat here, but solidified my decision to leave that unit, and quickly. These are just the offenses that come to mind on a Sunday morning. Bottomline: Trump doesn’t give a flying fuck about veterans or service members. Honestly, he looks down on them. If one of these incidents were isolated, there would potentially be room to consider the legitimacy of the claim, but over a 50 year history, Trump has been consistent in his open display of disdain for those who chose to serve the country he’s so desperate to lead. So again, if you have someone you know or a family member who’s a veteran or active service member who’s considering voting for Trump, feel free to bring up any or all of the previous points. Remind them that Trump’s interests are his own and only his own. That he views service members, past, present and future, as “suckers and losers” and places more deference to billionaire donors than those who bleed for our country. -- Like what you’re reading? The small commercial helicopter buzzed low over the marijuana fields of northern California. Men dressed in fatigues, rifles slung over their plate carriers, legs dangling above the skids as they sat in the open doors, surveyed the field below. One fired a black jet of dip out, wiping his mouth with a gloved hand. On January 22nd, 2025, 17 year old Solomon Henderson walked into his school’s cafeteria and fired 10 shots in a matter of seconds, ending the life of one student, wounding another and then ultimately taking his own life. The scene in Antioch, TN is one we’re all too familiar with: despondent student with red flags up the waz all over social media, killing and traumatizing classmates in a place they should be safe all day. This is not a post about school shootings or student safety. This post...
The world is a crazy place right now and current events are leading many non-gun owners to consider purchasing a firearm for the first time. This is a good thing! Here at PHC we promote equality through firepower. But it can be overwhelming, right? Where do you even start if you’ve never purchased a gun before? It’s not as easy as one-clicking some plastic bullshit on Amazon (drop Amazon if you still use it, btw). So below I came up with some quick tips to help the first time gun buyer out....
